Latest WhatsApp update adds Meta AI Chatbot with Llama 3, Meta’s most advanced AI
WhatsApp’s new update is activating Meta’s most anticipated AI Chatbot on a wider scale. The Meta chatbot was only available in the United States, Canada, and the UK. The AI seems to be rolling out in European countries, and Asian market including Germany, France, India, Singapore, Thailand, and more via beta as well as stable channel.
Last month, Meta announced new WhatsApp UI with a refreshed look. It included enhanced dark and light themes, new chat icon, bottom navigation tabs, and a brand new Meta AI search bar or chat icon for iPhone and Android respectively.
While the new design already rolled out, the AI was absent. It has not been integrated into the messenger app. See WhatsApp’s new design with a full bottom bar, new layout, icons, and animations.
The floating chat button is now replaced with a full bottom bar with options for Chats, Updates, Communities, and Calls for the iPhones. The top search bar is now replaced with Meta AI, which also doubles as search function for both Android and iPhones.
WhatsApp also added another section for filtering our chats with options ranging from All, Unread, and Groups.
The iPhone UI is the same as Android, except it adds another tab for Settings at the bottom panel.
WhatsApp with Meta AI
You will see a new floating Meta AI floating widget right above the chat widget. Upon clicking, it launches Meta AI chat windows with Llama 3. You can ask it anything. It will be your own personal assistant.
Seems as though the search bar will stay and a new Meta widget will be available for some devices.
What is Meta Llama 3?
Meta Llama 3 is the latest generation and most advanced large language model from Meta AI. It features pretrained and instruction-tuned versions with 8B and 70B parameters, which is on par with Google’s Gemini or OpenAi’s ChatGPT.
Users can leverage Meta Llama 3’s capabilities for a variety of tasks like planning, information lookup, and creative generation.
Most importantly, Llama 3 models is open-source with the goal of enabling the broader community to build innovative applications and further advance the field of large language models.
Meta’s also integrated trust and safety tools like Llama Guard 2 and a focus on principles outlined in the Responsible Use Guide.

Meta AI is rolling out via both WhatsApp Messenger 2.24.14.7 beta channel and WhatsApp Messenger 2.24.13.73 stable. However, it is still server side and may not be available right away.
