Gemini in Google Messages comes to Europe in More Languages [How to Activate]

As reported previously, Google Gemini came as a replacement for Google Assistant, and also came to Google Messages. While that was only in the United States, Gemini is now rolling out in Google Messages in Europe including the UK and Switzerland.

Gemini in Google Messages is starting to roll out across Europe and expanding to more languages. Primarily in the European Economic Area, UK, and Switzerland, with the ability to chat in newly added languages on selected devices. It opens in a new window.

You can get started by clicking the “Start chat” button in Messages, and selecting Gemini.

Using Gemini in Google Messages, you can draft messages, brainstorm ideas, plan events or simply have a fun conversation, all without leaving the Google Messages app.

Following the Pixel lineup including the Pixel 8, 7, 6 series phones, Google Gemini support is not rolling out to Nothing Phones in Google Messages. Users of Nothing Phone 2a, Samsung Galaxy S24 series, S23 series, Galaxy Fold series received Chat with Gemini in Google Messages popup.

Gemini AI is showing up to more users in Google Messages if you have RCS activated. Gemini will show up when you reply to someone in Messages app and offer you suggestions to reply. You can also activate it if you create a new conversation and the first result will be Gemini. So you can just chat with Gemini as you would do with the native Gemini app.

This is very useful where the Gemini app is not available for download on the Play Store. This is another way to access AI on your phone.

Gemini AI is being gradually integrated into the suite of apps and services from Gmail and Google Docs to its latest addition, Google Messages. Additionally, users have the option to swap out Google Assistant with Gemini AI on any Android device.

How to Activate Gemini in Google Messages?

The easiest way to access Gemini in Google Messages is to hit a new conversation, and you will be greeted with Gemini. The other option is to reply to someone in an RCS chat to activate Gemini.

Note: Check for this icon to confirm you have Gemini in Messages.

1. On your Android phone, make sure you have the latest Google Messages update, beta preferred.
2. Tap the chat with Gemini, or tap Start chat  Gemini.
3. For the first time, follow any on-screen instructions.
4. Enter your question or prompt.
5. Optionally, to add a photo to your prompt, tap Show attach media screen 
6. Tap top Send message.
