Google Maps with Reporting Feature Available for Android, iOS, Android Auto and CarPlay

Users who rely on Google Maps or Waze for navigation and daily commute can now benefit from a very useful feature which enables crowdsourcing traffic reports and incidences. Both Google Maps and Waze are making it easier to report incidents and helpful information including crash reports, lane closures, nearby construction, objects, stalled vehicle, and even mobile speed camera and police presence. Some users are already seeing this option available in their Maps.
While traffic conditions were already available in Google Maps, it was limited to avoiding heavy traffic areas and rerouting closures. However, the new Report option in Maps will make it easier for all uses to report specific instances.
According to reports, the latest Google Maps Beta version, 11.140.0101, is now available with tis new feature and is rolling out across all platforms including Android phones, iPhones, Android Auto, Apple Car Play, and cars with Google built-in.
Google Maps and Waze Roll Out Enhanced Community Reporting Updates for Drivers
Google has just unveiled a series of updates to its navigation apps – Google Maps and Waze – on how we interact with our surroundings and fellow drivers. These new with features include report incidents in Maps to help other users, new guidance feature in Maps, and more for the Waze app.
Enhanced Incident Reporting in Google Maps
One of the highlights of the updates is the improved incident reporting system in Google Maps. This feature takes advantage of the power of crowdsourcing to keep drivers informed about real-time road conditions. Here’s what’s new:
- Larger, More Accessible Reporting Icons: Google has redesigned the reporting interface with larger icons that are easier to tap while driving. This seemingly small change can make a significant difference in user engagement and safety.
- Expanded Reporting Categories: Users can now report a wider range of incidents, including:
- Construction zones
- Lane closures
- Objects on the road
- Police presence
- Cross-Platform Integration: Reports from both Maps and Waze communities will be visible, with indicators showing which app the report originated from.
- One-Tap Confirmation: Other drivers can quickly confirm reported incidents with a single tap, strengthening the reliability of the information.
This enhanced reporting system is rolling out globally on Android and iOS devices, as well as cars with Google built-in, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. As for the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, we can expect a hands-free experience via Google Assistant.
Destination Guidance Feature
Arriving at an unfamiliar destination, especially in low-light conditions, can be a stressful experience. Google Maps’ new destination guidance feature aims to solve this problem:
- Automatic Building Highlighting: As you approach your destination, Maps will automatically illuminate the target building and its entrance on your screen.
- Nearby Parking Information: The app will also display information about nearby parking lots, saving you the hassle of circling the block.

This feature is particularly valuable for those navigating to large complexes or unfamiliar areas after dark. It’s set to roll out globally in the coming weeks across various platforms, including Android, iOS, cars with Google Built-in, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay.
Waze App Update
Waze is introducing several new features that focus on driver awareness and convenience:
- New Camera Alerts:
- Waze will now alert drivers to various types of cameras used to enforce traffic laws.
- These include cameras for speeding, red light violations, incorrect lane usage, seatbelt compliance, and phone use while driving.
- The data is sourced from the Waze community and publicly available information from local authorities.
- Traffic Event Notifications:
- Users will receive notifications about significant events impacting traffic, such as parades, concerts, or sporting events.
- The app provides details on the cause of the event, road closures, and real-time traffic conditions.
- Users can easily share this information with friends and family.
- Lock Screen Navigation:
- Waze now offers the convenience of navigation guidance while your phone remains locked.
- This feature includes turn-by-turn directions, real-time traffic updates, and hazard alerts.
- It’s launching globally on Android this month, with iOS support coming in the fall.
