Google rolls out its March 2025 software update for all supported Pixel devices running Android 15. While the previous security patch brought critical bug fixes like Android Auto’s fix for audio output delay or no audio and Bluetooth connectivity fixes. The March update is not simply a security patch, but rather a Pixel Feature Drop; meaning, it brings new features for all Pixel devices.

The March 2024 Pixel Drop brings Pixel 9 features to Pixel 6 and newer and Pixel Fold devices. The update includes AI enhancements, advanced scam detection, enhanced emergency connectivity, and innovative productivity tools for Google Pixel devices. Here’s what Google says.

Also, multimodal capabilities in Gemini Live, which we announced in January and launched for Pixel 9 users, are now rolling out to all Pixel 6 and newer and Pixel Fold devices. You’ll be able to add images, files and YouTube videos to your conversations to provide more context about what exactly you’re looking for or trying to understand.

Pixel Drop March 2025 Features

Google’s Pixel Drop for March 2025 offers a host of features that enhance everyday interactions, strengthen security, and boost creativity. This update introduces advanced AI capabilities, improved safety measures, and powerful productivity tools that redefine the digital experience on Pixel phones, smartwatches, and foldable devices.

Gemini Live for Pixel 6 and above

This update is focused on Gemini Live and more AI feature integration for older devices. The enhanced Gemini Live, now powered by Gemini 2.0 Flash. Users can enjoy seamless multilingual conversations across more than 45 languages without needing to adjust their language settings. This enriches chats and interactions, while also allowing the incorporation of images, files, and YouTube videos into chats — a feature that initially debuted on Pixel 9 is now available for Pixel 6 and newer devices, as well as Pixel Fold series.

Google also introduced live video and screen sharing through Gemini Advanced with project called ‘Astra’ which promises to further elevate the interactive experience. Users can now use live video recording with Gemini.

New Pixel apps

Pixel Screenshots upgrades on Pixel 9 Pro

The updated Pixel Screenshots 2 intelligently suggests which screenshots to save, making it effortless to manage everything from receipts and expense reports to personal memories. Meanwhile, Pixel Studio transforms creative ideas into reality by allowing users to generate unique images simply by describing a person or scene. These creative tool are now available in Japan and Germany, where users can benefit from AI-powered summaries in the Recorder app and additional features in the Weather app, including personalized weather reports and a pollen tracker.

Scam Detection

The upgraded Scam Detection feature, driven by Gemini Nano, analyzes call patterns and message content in real time, alerting users to suspicious behavior and potential fraud without compromising privacy.

Additionally, Satellite SOS has expanded its reach to regions such as Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, and Canada, ensuring that even in areas without cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity, emergency services remain accessible.

Share live location

Plus, enhanced Find My Device capability now allows users to share their live location with friends and family, providing peace of mind during travel or everyday activities.

Pixel Watch

Pixel Watch also takes center stage in this update by introducing groundbreaking health features. Loss of Pulse Detection on Pixel Watch 3, recently cleared by the U.S. FDA, continuously monitors heart activity and can automatically alert emergency services if a critical condition is detected.

Moreover, on-device menstrual tracking now offers a convenient way for users to log and monitor their cycles directly on their wrists, while refined step tracking and sleep management algorithms adapt to varied activities, ensuring that every movement and moment of rest is accurately captured.

Dual Screen Preview

Pixel Fold users can now record videos using Dual Screen Preview, capturing each memory in exceptional quality. The Add Me feature on Pixel 9 Pro Fold enhances group photos by ensuring everyone is included in the frame, while the Connected Cameras function allows users to link their Pixel with additional devices, such as a GoPro, for dynamic, multi-angle streaming on social media platforms.

Productivity features

Productivity is also given a boost with features that simplify daily tasks. Users transitioning to a new Pixel device can easily transfer old lecture or conference recordings, which are then automatically transcribed by the Recorder app. Gboard’s new Voice Toolbar streamlines the process of voice-to-text input, while customizable modes such as Driving, Bedtime, and Do Not Disturb adapt the device to various daily scenarios. Enhanced audio controls on Pixel Watch further empower users to manage playback functions with ease, making every interaction as efficient as it is intuitive.
